Unless you have been hiding in Amazon rainforest, you have most likely heard about the Maybelline Colossal Turquoise Kohl hype that is currently going on. So today at Beauty and the Best we will find out if this hypnotising shade is worth the hype or not…
If you follow me on Instagram ( beauty_shreya ), a couple of weeks ago you’ll have seen how ecstatic I was to be followed by my favourite makeup brand on Instagram…. Maybelline. Not only did they follow me, they also reposted one of my pictures… Yay. I am a massive Maybelline fan and adore every product I’ve tried so far… in particular, their Colossal Kajal, Mascara and all their lip products. Dream Lumi Concealer which is my holy grail concealer, and I rave about it to everyone and anyone that’ll listen.

My take on Maybelline Colossal Kohl in Turquoise :
I saw this color online and had to try it. Initially I thought it maybe hyped and I was a little reluctant because it’s a teal color and I already have few similar from other brands. Finally got a chance and tried it and woah! The color looks amazing with my eyes. Does not look over done either. I was afraid of looking clownish but no way. It’s just beautiful !

Maybelline Colossal Kohl comes in a yellow twist up pencil which easily fits in my makeup bag.
Color / Shade :
It is a beautiful greenish blue teal shade ( nearly turquoise shade ) with micro shimmers. It blends perfectly with your lash line and looks great when paired with black eyeliner. It goes great with my olive skin and dark brown/black eyes. The turquoise shade that shows up on the skin is pretty true to the color you see in the pencil, depending on how much you build up the color.
The pigmentation is amazing. The pencil is so creamy and opaque so you can either use it to have a sheer shade or build it up more, for a more intense look. I’ve been loving using it more intensely, and then smudging it. When applying this Turquoise Kohl to the lashline, I’ve found it lasts longer and looks better when layered over an eyeshadow primer which I tend to do with most colored eyeliners to increase the intensity.
Texture / Formula :
I am also thoroughly impressed by how smooth, and creamy the pencil is….. it glides across the lid or waterline effortlessly, have a look at the bottom photograph? I didn’t expect to like this pencil as I’m a bit of an eyeliner quality snob, but this pencil is genuinely as pigmented as any high end one and the quality is simply great. Two swipes give a pretty shimmery turquoise shade. It has the typical colossal formula : comfortable, long wearing and waterproof !
The creamy formula makes this eyeliner perfect for any look. I just use the pencil to ‘draw’ a thin winged liner, then get liner brush to smuged the eyeliner before it sets .
Staying Power :
On the waterline it lasts for around three to four hours before fading, which is average for a pencil eyeliner, on the lids it lasts longer up to 10 hours on my oily eyelids which is beyond amazing !
How I Wear It ?
It’s a beautiful, sparkly deep teal (turquoise) color, it glides on perfectly, and the best part is that it doesn’t smudge on my upper eyelids, which most other eyeliners do (even waterproof ones)!! Stays on pretty much all day.
What I Like ? 🙂
- Smooth texture
- glides easily on the lids.
- Great Staying power .
- Perfect for daily use.
- Looks great on all skin tones.
- Packaging is travel friendly.
- Color payoff is amazing.
- Easily available
What I Didn’t Like ? 🙁
- because of the creamy texture it can break.
- Looks beautiful on waterline but may not look even because of the shimmer.
My Rating : 4.7/5
