Hey Peeps !

When I got MAC Studio Fix Fluid Spf 15, it seemed like the only foundation I was going to need through the summer months. I got this stuff as I wanted some base with good amount of coverage. My skin isn’t looking great, all thanks to my hectic schedule and poor eating habits. I wanted something that could help me to blur my imperfections and smooth the appearance of pores. Also during these horribly hot summer months, I prefer a base product with SPF that can look after my skin simultaneously.

So while hunting for a good summer foundation I came across MAC studio fix fluid which looked like perfect match. Did it manage to win my heart? Let’s find out….

PRICE : India – INR 2290, USA – $27

Quantity : 30ml

My Experience ?

PACKAGING – MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation comes in a cylindrical glass packaging. It has a sleek and sturdy black cap with the screw lid function. The transparent bottle enables you to see the shade properly. There is no dispenser, pump or nozzle to take out the product – you simply have to pour it. Having said that, the overall packaging is definitely not travel friendly. Firstly, the glass bottle is risky and secondly without any pump or dispenser. Also, the mouth of the bottle gets really messy.

SHADE – MAC has better shade selection than other brands and that is one of the factors that people prefer MAC. However, make sure to choose a proper shade with proper undertones. For me the shade NC 30 is a better match for summer, but I hate the fact that it oxidizes. If you get the right shade, I would say half the battle is won. It looks au naturel and photographs pretty well. It doesn’t cake up and gives a smooth look to the face, almost like an airbrushed look. Most of the medium skin tone beauties may like NC40, NC 42 or NC35 !

COVERAGE – A little amount of product goes a long way as it offers high coverage. The coverage is buildable and two layers are enough if you want heavy coverage. It does cover light spots and marks in one layer itself, but if your skin has way too many blemishes, this foundation needs a second layer to cover up everything. Make sure you blend the foundation as quick as you can because it has the tendency to set quickly.

TEXTURE – the texture is liquid but not excessively runny, or ‘Fluid’ if you go by its name. It blends seamlessly into the skin and looks natural in every way possible. You can blend it with damp sponge and try to avoid normal foundation brush as brushes can sometimes make thick foundations look streaky. The texture is not that lightweight if you build layers, specially for oily skin person like me(I’ve tried products with better texture). The foundation has SPF 15 but thankfully doesn’t deposit any whitish layer on the skin. However, if you are going out in the sun, you have to apply sunscreen underneath.

FINISH – the finish is matte. Not the dry and patchy kind of matte but smooth and natural matte. It doesn’t add any glow or does not give any dewy finish. Oily and combination skin beauties would love the finish but that doesn’t mean dry skin cannot use it; all they have to do is apply a good heavy duty moisturizer and then you’re all set.

FORMULA – the formula is waterproof and it does not require a primer to enhance its performance as a foundation. It does transfer slightly on the phone screen but after a long time of application. It holds a good base for blushes and highlighters and they don’t slid or fade off easily. The formula can also break-out sensitive skin types, so I won’t recommend this to sensitive skin beauties.

UPDATE : I have a very oily skin and summer worsens my skin condition. I had not so good experience wearing this foundation on its own as my oil broke down the foundation on T-zone giving me a cakey and uneven look. I was about to throw it but decided to give it one last chance – I used a primer and a translucent powder to set it. OMGee it was totally like a different product. It suddenly changed into a perfect base that really helped me to look flawless without overdoing the layers.

STAYING POWER – the staying power is very good. It stayed on my skin around 6-7hours without primer. So, with primer the longevity definitely increases.
