Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub : Review & Ratings
(Author ~ Sanchita )
When it comes to skin care, I have always trusted Himalaya. I had acne prone skin for a long time and I used the Neem face wash and scrub for a long time during my adolescent years. This summer has taken a pretty bad toll on the skin and I started breaking out despite using non-comedogenic makeup products. Therefore, I decided to go back to my old Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub and having used it for around 2-3 months now, here’s my take on it.
PRICE – 130 INR for 100g
The scrub comes in a neat white plushy tube with a green flip open cap. There is an opening once when open the green cap which dispenses out the right amount of product. The tube is not messy at all and light weight as well even when you opt for the bigger version. I have travelled quite a few times with this one and it has never created any mess in my bag at all. I like the tube over any pot as it is hygienic to use. Overall, nice and sanitary packaging.
The scrub is off-white in color with minute green particles in it. It has a light whipped creamy consistency and spreads well on the face. It is best to apply on a damp face rather than a wet one as the particles tends to slip away. The smell has a freshness to it which resemble a lot with the Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash but nothing exorbitantly neem at all. Coming to the coarseness of the scrub, it would say it will medium. It is neither too coarse like general Apricot ones not too mild. Having said that, it works great on every skin type. Though it says that acne prone should not scrub as it damages the skin further, this scrub has always been a safe and good choice for me.
I simply stream my face (when I get time) and then apply the scrub and massage it for around 3-4mins concentrating on the circular motions and around the nose and forehead where I feel requires scrubbing. I follow this up with a facial foam which further render my skin smooth and clean. The scrubs works very well taking off every layer of dirt and grime even the though the texture is creamy. It doesn’t make the skin stretchy and dry at all but cleanses the pores very well. The granules are of medium coarseness and thus it works very mildly on blackheads. It has never been a concern for me but if you suffer from heavy blackhead problems, this might not be a great solution. The skin looks super soft and smooth with the pores cleansed and diminished. It also takes away the dullness and dead cells away from the face bringing a soft glow and radiance which I really like.
Coming to the ingredients, it says that it has neem and apricot as the main components. As we know, Neem has various antibacterial and anti-septic properties for the skin. It helps to prevent acne and combats he infections on the skin causing acne. In fact, it also prevents further breakouts on the skin. It furthers clears out the skin, clears the pigmentation and control the excess secretion of oils. Apricot granules helps to exfoliate the skin well, unclogging the pores and bringing about the natural glow to the skin. I also noticed ‘parabens’ which is surely a con for an ‘herbal’ product, as claimed by the brand.
The effect of the scrub was in general good and helped my skin preventing acne. However, it doesn’t help in drying out or curing acne but merely prevents from supplementary occurrence. The effect of the scrub lasts about 1-2days and then my skin goes back to being normal, especially in summer. I mainly scrub the skin twice a week and so far, it has been a good experience with the scrub.
OVERALL – Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub has medium coarse granules of neem and apricot which works pretty decently on every skin in unclogging pores, smoothening the skin and prevents acne and brings about a mild glow to the skin. For the price, it does its job pretty efficiently.
WHAT I LIKED 🙂
- Plushy tube and hygienic packaging and also light weight.
- The scrub is light creamy and has a refreshing fragrance which is very mild.
- The exfoliating particles are medium – neither too harsh nor too mild.
- Works on majority of skin types.
- Makes the skin smooth and supple.
- Removes dead cells and gives a fresh glow.
- Helps in unclogging pores.
- It is Hypo-allergic and dermatologically tested.
- Helps in preventing breakout.
- Reasonable price tag.
WHAT I DISLIKED 🙁
- It has parabens.
- The effect on the skin is mild.
- Won’t work much on blackheads.
- Dry skin won’t like it very much.
- It doesn’t help in curing acne.
RECOMMENDATION – if you are in search of a good scrub that will do the basic job of exfoliation (minus the blackheads) and provide a smooth acne free skin, then this scrub do its job pretty well. also, the presence of paraben is surely concerning if you think it is completely ‘herbal’.
