Maybelline Colorsensational Lip Liner Midnight Plum Review
(Author ~ Sanchita)
I was in search of a good plum berry lip liner for myself but was unable to decide which one to go for. One day I saw my friend wearing a stunning plum-berry lip color and she is the one who told me that it was actually a lip liner from Maybelline! I wasted no time at all and simply ran to the store to pick up the color. I have tried these Colorsensational Lip Liner way back but didn’t find the shades very appealing. However, this pretty beauty is beyond gorgeous.
Having used the lip liner for various events, here’s my thought on the product.
PRICE – 320 INR for 5g
Packaging – Maybelline Colorsensational Lip Liner comes in a sharpenable pencil form with a transparent cap. Although you can see the shade through the cap, the packaging is also color coded which is excellent when you are in a hurry with the brand name and range written in silver accents. The pencil has a rather slim body unlike some chubby lip liners. The sharpening causes a lot of wastage of the product and the quantity is also nominal (only 5g) and therefore it hurts like hell to lose such a color. I would have loved it even more if the liner would come in a retractable function.
Shade – The shade Midnight Plum is a rich mix of deep wine red and plum. The color is a beauty in itself and hence looks stunning. It doesn’t have any shimmery or frosty touch to it but merely an intense mix of colors. Due to the striking mix of deep wine red and plum, you can pair this up with any shade of wine or garnet or plum. The color has enough warmth and adaptability which looks flattering enough on any skin-tone. For fair to medium skin, I would suggest to wear this color either in winter season when berry color is always in fashion or somewhat for any night occasions or bridal purpose. The shade has enough of glamour to take away all the limelight.
Texture – The texture of the lip liner is creamy smooth and soft. Although it has a slight disadvantage on its own. Due to this creaminess, the liner has the tendency to break out in a chunk when applied with slightest pressure. Therefore, make sure to use the lightest hand when applying this. Since there is no glitter, it feels very smooth and nice on the lips. It doesn’t tug or pull at all and extremely natural as far as the texture goes.
Pigmentation – I can describe the pigmentation in a word – stunning! It literally took my breath away when I first swatched it. This is the most pigmented color I have come across. In fact, the color is so highly saturated that you can easily pass it off as a lip color, without a second thought. Having said that, be very careful while you apply the color. This is because the moment you make a mistake, like over lining, you are going to regret it as it is very tough to remove. But, all in all it is a stunner.
Formula and finish – The lip liner feels slightly sticky or tight when you apply it but after 2-3mins it settles down on its own. The finish is matte but not a powder matte one. Thus, the comfortable factor is there but with the passage of time you will need a lip balm if you have dry lips. I like the formula as it makes my lip color stay forever and prevents accentuating on fine lines.
Longevity – The longevity is forever. On its own it lasts for about 7 hours which is great and fades a little when you consume heavy meals or oily food. When worn with a creamy or liquid matte lipstick, my lip color was almost intact (70%-80%) the whole day. And that whole day includes heavy oily foods and lots of drinks. I was surprised how the lips didn’t looks patchy or uneven without a single touch up. This particular lip color is a bomb!

WHAT I LIKED
- Color coded packaging.
- Midnight Plum is a rich mix of deep wine red and plum.
- Excellent berry shade for Indian skin tones and a bridal lip color.
- The texture of the lip liner is creamy smooth and soft.
- Deepest pigmentation.
- Matte finish and helps the lip color a lot.
- Staying power is whole day without touch ups.
WHAT I DISLIKED
- Sharpening causes wastage.
- Since it is too creamy, pressure breaks off the tip of the liner.
RECOMMENDATION – This particular lip liner is a heartwarming color if you are a fan of berry colors. I would highly recommend this color, especially for winters and surely going to repurchase once I am done with this one.
BnB RATING – 9/10
