NEW Garnier Ultra Blends Soy Milk & Almonds Shampoo Review
(Author ~ Sanchita)
Garnier launched the Ultra Blends series with much pomp and show. This series looks like the successor of the Garnier Ultra Doux range which was withdrawn pretty long back by the brand. With a week or two, literally every store in my city was out of stock with the Ultra Blends and I thought I have to try it out. I wanted the Garnier Ultra Blends Mythic Olive Shampoo but ended up with the Soy Milk & Almonds one because the former was out of stock.
I have developed this love-hate relationship with the shampoo and here’s my detailed review on the product in question.
PRICE – 120 INR for 175ml
The Garnier Ultra Blends Soy Milk & Almonds Shampoo comes in a white plastic packaging with a matte golden flip open cap with a leaf engraved on it. The bottle is light weight and is very easy to travel with. The opening of the bottle dispenses right amount of product and there’s hardly any leakage or spillage with this one. Overall, the packaging is nice. The moment you open the bottle, you will get this sweetest nourishing smell that is beyond explanation. Seriously, the smell is heavenly and the best part is that it lingers on the tresses forever. In fact, the smell drives away every tacky, sweaty smell from the hair even in humid and hot days. The smell lingers on for about a day or two, depending how much you get but it sure stays. The aroma of sweet nourishing soy milk and almonds is the best thing about this shampoo.
The shampoo is meant for damaged hair. Thus, I bought it because it thought it will be nourishing and I can skip the conditioner. Well, I was wrong. The efficacy of the shampoo has its own pros and cons. To start with, I have dry and damaged hair (lower portion) so I always make it a point to use a nourishing shampoo. When I first washed the hair (without oiling) it cleansed the hair of every layer of dirt, grime, pollution and oiliness. On one hand, it is a good thing for hot and humid days, especially when your hair and scalp attracts so much dirt and oil. The shampoo lathers very well, even in the first wash itself (with oil). Garnier has marketed the range with the claim that the shampoo is ‘paraben-free’, however, very conveniently, they skipped the part about SLS. The shampoo is literally loaded with it (which causes to lather so well) and thus leaves the hair dry and lifeless. I didn’t oil the hair, use the conditioner or leave in serum just to see how good the shampoo is, but my hair was a train wreck – dry and frizzy. However, I noticed my hair was softer though.
Coming to the days when I have deep conditioned the hair with oil and used a conditioner afterwards, the shampoo works like a charm. My hair felt softer, smoother and silkier. Therefore, I figured out that the shampoo surely requires a good nourishing conditioner to lock in the hydration. It also makes the scalp squeaky clean and prevents hair fall. I was suffering from terrible hair fall from my previous shampoo but this one somehow calmed down my scalp. The product is enriched with protein rich ingredients like soy milk, almonds and vitamin E which helps to smoothen the tresses. The hair looks less frizzy and dry when used with a conditioner. It will not weigh down the hair and gives a healthy bounce. It is also a great shampoo for limp hair.
The product is paraben free and the smooth effect on hair stays for about 2-3 with gym and regular ordeals. However, a conditioner is a must if you want to survive the dryness. Also, it makes the hair looks good but the ‘deeply replenishing the damaged hair’ is surely nowhere to be seen for me. Price wise, it is good for a budget friendly shampoo.
OVERALL – Garnier Ultra Blends Soy Milk & Almonds Shampoo is loaded with the sweetest aroma and the shampoo lathers very generously due to the excessive presence of SLS that dries out the hair but when used with a conditioner, it feel smooth, cleansed and bouncy.
