Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation Review

( Author ~ Sanchita)

Hello everyone !

Hope you all are enjoying the monsoon. Last month I went out for a movie and after that decided to pick up some products I wanted to try for a long time. Most of them were Maybelline ones as they were having some kind sale going on along with gifts with a purchase of certain amount. I picked a foundation, lip liner, some colored kohls and few other products from different brands.

Today, I am going to review the product Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation which I have tried and tested in this transitional summer-monsoon weeks and here’s my detailed view on the product.

PRICE – 700 INR for 30ml

SHADES AVAILABLE – 02, 04, B3, B4 and B5 (my shade)

Packaging – The Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation comes in a cylindrical glass bottle with a pump dispenser. It is further accompanied by a transparent cap to protect the dispenser. The glass bottle is transparent which enables you to see the shade of the foundation and also the shade name is written just on the lower front. Although I am not a fan of glass bottle as I have the habit of accidentally dropping things very often, the pump dispenser was a relief. The pump works perfectly fine and allows you to customize the amount of product you want. I have never travelled with this foundation (I prefer BB/CC creams mostly for travelling) but all I can say is you have to be slightly careful. Overall, the packaging was decent.

Shades – Now, the shade card was not impressive. It has only 5 shades (two slight yellow toned, one beige, one neutral and one pink toned) color and would mostly cover the fair to medium skin tones. For dusky or deeper complexion, there was no color whatsoever. My skin tone is NC 40 and is slightly tanned in summer with strong warm toned and I chose the shade B5. It has warm yellow under tone but feels slightly light on the skin tone. However, I prefer to mix it with a darker medium to use it and then only I get the proper shade. So, the shade card is a serious botheration I faced with this foundation. To brighten the complexion, use Banana powder to set it.

Coverage – The coverage for this foundation is medium to buildable. My skin is in a good condition for now except for a bit of unevenness and pigmentation and the foundation gladly covers it up without hesitation. It is definitely not going to cover up the scars and marks and for that you have to use concealer. For a daily usable drugstore foundation, I feel the coverage is just fine. Although it has SPF, the whitish cast is thankfully not there. However, when I tried to photograph wearing this, it wasn’t very flattering either. However, under natural light, it looks pretty good. Hence, I would not recommend this for bridal purpose.

Texture The foundation has the consistency of liquid mousse – something like liquid but air whipped. The texture of the foundation is something I can really appreciate as it is so easy to apply and blend. It spreads well on the face and requires a very little amount. Having said that it leaves no room for cakey or uneven finish and makes the skin breathable. Further, it doesn’t clog the pores or break me out at all. It gives you enough time to blend in and doesn’t accentuate n fine lines. Now, having an oily skin I realized this foundation is a better choice for dry skin than mine.

Application – I apply a gel sunscreen and then the foundation on top. I apply it on the areas with my fingers where I need the most coverage or brightening and spread it slightly. Then, using a dam Beauty Blender I buff it onto the skin and blend it thoroughly. The application is easy and makes it a lot easier. It feels very light and comfortable on the skin.

Finish – The finish of the foundation is downright dewy on my oily skin. Hence, if you want a matte look, invest in a good oil control powder or compact on top of it to make all the shine go away. For any kind of skin, this is a perfect dewy foundation and would be an excellent choice for winters.

Oil control and Oxidization – as it is mentioned before, the foundation is best for the dry skin, the oil control is really poor. It turns my face shiny and oily within two hours of application and best if I wear it in winter months. Otherwise, you have to touch up with compact every few hours. The foundation doesn’t oxidize on my skin at all. Although I wear a shade slightly lighter but still I haven’t noticed any orange-dullness on the skin.

Longevity The foundation lasts on me for about 4-5hours with one touch-up. It has the tendency to melt away with the heat and humidity of June on my super oily skin. I believe it will have a better staying power in winters or for dry skin type.

OVERALL – A drugstore foundation with an incredible liquid air-whipped texture, medium coverage that gives a gorgeous natural and luminous finish and best suited for dry skin is surely a decent pick for winters. However, it won’t be a flattering one for summers in India.
